8. Randy Orton Vs. Triple H Vs. JBL Vs. John Cena (2008)

Who doesn't love a good elimination match; four contenders getting gradually whittled down to a final two, over an evenly-distributed period of time. It's a gripping format...

...except that it was grossly misused in this instance. After going through the motions of having four contenders make their patented entrances, including JBL's limousine shtick, it only took 11 minutes before JBL was eliminated. Cena is then knocked out a handful of seconds later, which leaves another 20 minutes of Orton and Hunter going one on one.

Ultimately it was false advertising, and should have been billed simply as Triple H versus Randy Orton. It's obvious Orton had to stick around, as he held the title, but the fact that Cena and Bradshaw missed out so swiftly killed any sense of storytelling.

That's not to say that Randy and Helmsley didn't put on a good show, but by that time, the damage had been done. The next dubious component came in the result. It was 2008 and The Game won the title clean. Make of that what you will.
