Every WWE Backlash Main Event Ranked Worst To Best
7. Edge Vs. Triple H Vs. John Cena (2006)
This had the potential to be so much more and by all rights, started out great. There were some extremely entertaining interactions followed by some high-intensity wrestling. The neat balance of an otherwise great spectacle was, however, swiftly shifted. By 2006, it was apparent that Triple H had become an essential ingredient to the Backlash main event, whether fans wanted it or not. Here, we had a frank example of him stealing the show by force.
It may or may not have been intentional for him to start p**sing blood from the forehead, in a manner more appropriate for a street fight/three stages of hell match, but it seemed to immediately detract from the perfectly reasonable bout between Cena and Edge. Worse still, Helmsley ended up laying out both competitors with a sledgehammer before doing DX 'suck it' gestures in the middle of the ring. The victory therefore went effortlessly to The Game.
With all other intentions thrown aside, it became the Triple H show 2.0. At this stage in his career, it was fully unnecessary.
