14. Triple H, Batista & Shane McMahon Vs Legacy (2009)

A painful continuation of a incomparably boring storyline, the Backlash 6-man main event created a vehicle for Randy Orton to finally claim the WWE Title without getting to beat Triple H conclusively in a singles match.

After the pair had put most of the WrestleMania 25 crowd in a coma in their show-closing snoozer, conflicts were resumed the following night when 'The Game's father-in-law bullishly challenged Orton to a fight in the main event. Looking his equal because of course he did, Vince was eventually upended by Randy and his Legacy goons, drawing the return of Dave Batista to side with his longtime Evolution friend and Vince's son Shane to do battle with the three upstarts.

Barring a choice feud with D-Generation-X (that they still comprehensively lost) Cody Rhodes and Ted Dibiase were never booked to look all that threatening in Randy's employ, and they stood little chance of stealing any shine away from the McMahon men and the former World Champion.

The contest was a dull, disjointed mess that required Hunter's WWE Title as a stake for the contest to squeeze any more drama from the listless rivalry. Rather than building around Batista or Shane losing his belt for him, Triple H chased lead antagonist Randy Orton out of the match in opening seconds, creating an inverse 3-on-2 dynamic for the first ten minutes.

Following more horrifically boring inaction between the five tanned bland black-trunked robots and a millionaire in a tracksuit, Orton stole the pin with his punt after Triple H/Batista miscommunication.
