Failing to re-invigorate one of the lesser-remembered WrestleMania title matches by inserting JBL into the conflict, the Backlash 2008 WWE Title match wasn't one of the company's finer 'Show of Shows' retreads.

Highlighting how desperate the shows were for an upcoming draft, the fatal four-way trotted out the tired quartet as a way to transition the belt from Randy Orton to Triple H without giving away yet another singles match between the two. Sort of.

Going through the motions early on, innovation was in short supply with the exception of a cute stereo submission spot on the heels by the babyfaces broken up by a illogical rake to the eyes of Cena by Bradshaw.

The elimination format saw 'The Champ eliminate JBL with an STF around the ten minute mark but then immediately suffer the punt kick to take a pinfall seconds later.

The remaining portion of the match was an over-indulgent Hunter/Randy ego war that dragged on for nearly 20 more gruelling minutes. Failing as usual to produce the epic encounter they believed they were capable of, the pair huffed and puffed towards a clean Pedigree finish after 'The Game' kicked out of an RKO in the only dramatic nearfall of the match.
