Despite the welcome return of the 'Rated-RKO' pairing of Edge and Randy Orton into title contention, the Backlash 2007 fatal four-way match sadly couldn't compete with the matches between John Cena and Shawn Michaels from WrestleMania and Monday Night Raw earlier in the month.

After the 'Show of Shows' topliner crafted further tension between the then-tag team champions, Michaels and Cena blew that out of the water with an astonishing 55 minute Raw encounter just six days earlier. With the expectations raised and memories of their sensational war still fresh in the mind, the multi-man contest felt lightweight in comparison to the superlative singles clashes.

Admittedly, the match was objectively better than most of the multi-man WrestleMania follow-ups, with the heat off the charts for several nearfalls from a crowd desperate to see the longstanding 'Champ' dethroned.

Michaels in particular was the sentimental favourite of the live crowd, with the audience erupting for his Sweet Chin Music strike on the champion that indirectly lead to his own loss.

With Randy Orton floored by an Edge spear and the 'Rated-R Superstar' downed himself from an FU, Michaels scored with his superkick but was unable to follow-up as a dazed Cena fell back onto 'The Viper' for a climactic and creative conclusion.
