When The Undertaker and Shawn Michaels get together in a WWE ring, something magical happens. The two men have delivered some of the most awe-inspiring moments in WWE history. But amidst their perfect wrestling and hellish encounters lies their Casket Match from 1998’s Royal Rumble.

When it comes down to wrestling alone, no other Casket Match comes close to this beauty. But aside from the expertly executed manoeuvres, this match told one compelling story. With Michaels being the outmatched champion, he was willing to do whatever it took to win, and as a result, he wrestled like his life depended on it (because in WWE terms, it did). However, the match also featured a standout performance from The Undertaker who had finally shed the shackles of his gimmick and was now allowed to showcase his full capabilities in the ring – and that’s exactly what he did.

While it may not be as iconic as their Hell in a Cell match a year earlier or as flawless as their WrestleMania classics a decade later, this was undoubtedly another incredible bout between these two legends. Though it has gone down in infamy due to the back injury that Michaels sustained during the match, it doesn’t change the fact that this is easily the greatest Casket Match of all time.
