Kane has been one of the most reliable big men in the business for 20 years, and his lengthy service speaks volumes of his dedication. It’s a shame it wasn’t until 2010 he was given his due as a champion, when he won the big gold belt. Before then, his only claim to world title gold was in 1998, when he held the championship for one night after King of the Ring.

In his First Blood match with Steve Austin, Kane was rendered unconscious as The Undertaker got involved. After an errant chairshot from ‘Taker, Austin bled, forcing the match to end with Kane as the victor. The PPV ended not with new champion Kane celebrating, but with him flat on his back as Vince grinned evilly. The next night, Austin invoked his rematch clause and won it back in the main event, rounding out a tidy 24-hour reign for Kane.

While it was a genuine shock for fans, and popped a huge rating for RAW, Kane’s reign was ultimately hotshotting for hotshotting’s sake. It was a disservice to Kane, and it’s a shame it took WWE 12 years to properly thank him with a real world title run.
