Every WWE Champion Of The 2000s Ranked From Worst To Best
12. Chris Jericho
In 2001, Chris Jericho accomplished an amazing milestone. At the Vengeance PPV, he defeated Steve Austin and The Rock in one night to merge the WCW and WWE titles. The former resident of WCW's midcard limbo was now the first-ever Undisputed Champion of the wrestling world. This accomplishment, above all of the other marks on Y2J's resume, will be lauded as the greatest triumph in his Hall of Fame career.
It's a shame then he was treated like chopped liver after the fact.
Oh sure, when it comes to a win-loss record, Jericho wasn't an absolute geek champion like Kevin Owens or Seth Rollins (who jobbed clean constantly throughout their respective runs), but from a character standpoint, The King of the World set the precedent for them. Instead of being the focal point of his WrestleMania main event feud with Triple H, he was a background element to the ongoing marital squabbles of Hunter and Stephanie McMahon. Usually, it's not a good sign when the world champion is a tertiary element of a feud, and this was no exception.
Chris Jericho would have more substantial runs with world titles down the line, but this one is something fans wish could have been so much more.
