2. Gran Metalik
Tournament result: Defeated in the finals by TJ Perkins.
What was he doing at the time?
Deep into his fourth reign with CMLL's World Welterweight Championship, Gran Metalik was the original Mascara Dorada, and...that's about it, really. He was otherwise just another spot-filler swimming against the tide in mid-card multi-mans for CMLL and New Japan. As 'The King Of The Ropes', Metalik could be relied upon to sprinkle in a couple of flashy dives, but who couldn't? That was the house style: Metalik would have had a better chance at standing out if he had springboarded into and subsequently bounced back off of a mobile Lars Sullivan or something.
What is he doing now?
A whole lot of nothing.
Future endeavoured from WWE in 2021 with the rest of The Lucha House Party, Metalik (sans Gran, which is an apt summary for his post-WWE career) hasn't competed for a major organisation since his banishment from AEW. That followed the usual 'wrestler thinks they're bigger than they actually are' protocol: he allegedly refused to do a job for Komander, it got out in the "press", and he refuted the allegations on social media.
Either way, he's not been relevant in 2 years. A shame, really, as he was legitimately one of the best workers WWE gained from raiding the sub-205-pound wrestling circuit.
