Every WWE Gimmick Match And The Wrestlers That Defined Them

22. Money In The Bank Ladder Match - Edge

Edge, to this day, remains the performer most associated with the Money In The Bank gimmick, which indicts its status as a shortcut star-maker.

Nobody since Edge has gotten over to his level in the 13 years since. His vicious, opportunistic performance, and John Cena's incredible sell-job, put it over as a very effective and unprecedented heel strategy. He was ready to ascend, too, which is the clear difference between then and now. Used lazily, repetitively or as pure trolling in the years since, the institution has faded badly. The match itself is invariably bonkers in brutality and excitement, but the repercussions on the wider picture range from pointless to obnoxious.

It's not dead, but WWE is doing its best to kill it.
