Still the only superstar to win the Money in the Bank briefcase in a singles match, Edge gained his opportunity by defeating Mr Kennedy (who had won the contract at WrestleMania 23 and went on to violate the WWE’s wellness policy).

The following week, after the World Heavyweight Champion, The Undertaker, retained the title in a cage match against Batista, Mark Henry dished out a post-match beatdown on The Deadman, leaving him laying.

Edge’s music played, and the Rated-R Superstar ran down, taking advantage of the situation. Edge delivered two spears and pinned ‘Taker to capture his first World Heavyweight Championship.

While not as shocking as his first cash-in, this victory went on to prove that Edge was the Ultimate Opportunist, and he would stoop to any low to be number one. He went on to defend the title several times, before a torn pectoral muscle forced him to vacate the championship. Edge would return at the 2007 Survivor Series in a surprising sneaky fashion, putting him in contention for the top spot once again.
