When Edge won the inaugural Money in the Bank Ladder match at WrestleMania 21, nobody knew exactly what that would entail. While the audience was informed that the winner would be granted a world championship match at his time of choosing, it was still not clear to what extent.

Carrying the briefcase from April 2005 until January the following year, Edge waited for his ultimate opportunity.

Following the Elimination Chamber main event, the victorious John Cena was lying in a bloody heap. Mr McMahon appeared on the stage and announced that Edge was chasing in the Money in the Bank privilege. Edge confidently made his way to the ring and delivered a Spear for a near-fall. In disbelief which turned into frustration, Edge delivered a final Spear to win his first WWE Championship.

Setting the precedent for multiple cash-ins in the future, Edge shocked the audience in a true career highlight of the Rated-R Superstar.
