Every WWE Release Of 2021 - Where Are They Now? (Five Years Later)
52. August Grey
Then: The man, the myth, the moustache. August Grey is the kind of fella a lot of WWE fans will scratch their heads over, because he really wasn't on the company books for too long. Grey signed in October 2020, but he was gone by June 2021. It was a whistle stop tour of 205 Live and NXT.
Big opportunities were few and far between for our August. He did get to work on TakeOver: WarGames in late 2020, but that was probs his biggest bout under the WWE banner. Oh, and that 6-man tag took place on the pre-show, so it wasn't officially part of the PLE.
Bummer.
Now: You guessed it, Grey showed up in AEW after leaving WWE behind. He appeared in a bunch of matches on Dark (opponents included Bobby Fish, Tony Nese and even FTR in tag-team action), and also worked a couple of bouts on 'A' show Dynamite. Those didn't lead to anything more full on.
August's last forays onto AEW programming happened in January 2022, and he's been pretty much all over the wrestling map ever since. As Anthony Greene, he's wrestled in NOAH, TNA, MLW, the NWA and more. It's like the dude is trying to collect for a sticker album of wrestling promotions.
Greene has even taken his skills to India as part of the WXM group's latest round of tapings, so look out for him there. Could he return to WWE someday? Sure, but it isn't like the ex-August Grey is struggling to find work.
