Every WWE Royal Rumble 'Final Four' - From Worst To Best
10. 2001 - Billy Gunn, Kane, The Rock & Steve Austin
WrestleMania X-Seven is almost universally considered to be the best ever iteration of the event, and the build to it started in earnest here. It's a four way showdown between Kane (who had just eliminated a full third of the field), Steve Austin (who had already won two Rumbles, tying the record), The Rock (himself a former winner and would-be Hollywood star), and The One Billy Gunn. What's that? You don't remember Billy Gunn working as ur-Tye Dillinger in 2001? This year's performance by Kane set an elimination record that went unmatched for more than a decade, and cemented his still-held record of most lifetime eliminations. He made a perfect final boss for Steve Austin, who spent most of the match bleeding out on the floor. His solution to this momentum deficit (repeatedly braining Kane with a handy chair) foreshadowed his iconic, hyperviolent heel turn in the 'Mania main even a couple of months later.
