As well as being the first Royal Rumble pay-per-view since the call-ups of NXT standouts Charlotte, Becky Lynch, and Sasha Banks, this would also mark the final Rumble appearance of the 'Divas' Championship, as the reinvention of the women's division had finally begun to take shape after a shaky start in the summer of 2015.

Building to their WrestlMania 32 Triple Threat match with Sasha Banks, Charlotte and Becky Lynch gave WWE audiences a small taste of what could be expected from the reinvigorated women's division, and in doing so crafted one of the best women's matches in the show's history.

After taking several shortcuts with the help of her father Ric Flair, Charlotte would definitively turn heel on friend Becky and embrace the dark side fully as she looked to hold on to the Divas Championship.

Clocking in at just under twelve minutes, the match was considered the main event outside of the Rumble itself, and saw Lynch repeatedly fending off interference from 'The Nature Boy', including a memorable spot where Charlotte looked well beaten in the Dis-arm-her until Flair distracted Lynch by throwing his jacket over her face.

The distraction forced Lynch to break, allowing Charlotte to rake Becky's eyes and hit a massive spear for a climactic victory.
