The 2013 Survivor Series wasn't a horrible show by any means, but it was a Big Four pay-per-view in the 21st century headlined by a Big Show World Title match, and as such has no right being anywhere near the upper echelons of any list. Why WWE thought Show would be a good replacement for a white-hot Daniel Bryan in the title scene remains a baffling mystery.

This show marked the true lightbulb moment for Roman Reigns, as he single-handedly eliminated four men to become the sole survivor for The Shield/Real Americans team against The Rhodes Brothers, Rey Mysterio, and The Usos. At this point in time, fans genuinely loved Roman Reigns.

John Cena beat Alberto Del Rio in a match we've seen at least 83 times, CM Punk & Daniel Bryan beat Luke Harper & Erick Rowan, and Total Divas beat True Divas to the interest of approximately nobody.

One year removed from the Montreal Screwjob, Vince McMahon reenacted that regrettable decision at the the climax of a tournament to crown a new WWF Champion. It seemed throughout that Mankind was the chosen champion, only for Vince to screw him over and help The Rock become the Corporate Champion.

Whilst important in the grand scheme of the Attitude Era, Survivor Series 1998 showed that an entire show centred on a tournament just doesn't work. There were 14 matches on the main show (plus four pre-show matches), including such classics as Al Snow vs. Jeff Jarrett and X-Pac vs. Steven Regal.

The ending was important, but getting there was a forgettable slog.

Now living in Prague, John spends most of his time trying to work out how Tomohiro Ishii still stands upright. His favourite wrestler of all time is Dean Malenko, but really it is Repo Man. He is the author of 'An Illustrated History of Slavic Misery', the best book about the Slavic people that you haven't yet read. You can get that and others from www.poshlostbooks.com.
