5. Bray Wyatt

How do you rank a guy who was responsible for one of the most creative, viral sensations of the year in staging his triumphant return, only for everything to unravel when he got back in the ring?

Bray Wyatt has always been lauded for his imaginative, vivid presentation, including visuals and promos, but it’s never really translated once the bell rings. His release in the summer of 2021 after a perplexing loss at WrestleMania 37 to Randy Orton led to fans campaigning for his return. They’d get their wish a year later.

The “White Rabbit” teasers throughout the fall of 2022 were insanely popular, with fans playing super-sleuth to follow the clues and decipher hidden messages buried in QR codes scattered across Raw and SmackDown. He would finally return at Extreme Rules in October and proceed to cut promos expressing his gratitude, only to be interrupted by a masked figure known as “Uncle Howdy.” (We could probably count Bo Dallas as a co-entry here.)

The less said about the Mtn. Dew Pitch Black match, the better, but suffice it to say, that wasn’t exactly a high point for Wyatt. To date, that’s been his only televised match. A planned – and initiated – feud with Bobby Lashley for WrestleMania 39 was abandoned due to Bray dealing with an undisclosed injury or illness, and he hasn’t been seen since.

Wyatt gets high marks for the sheer success of his return itself and the potential it brought, but it’s tempered by the actual tangibles of his presence on WWE programming after returning.
