Another wrestler who had to drop out over illness was Rey Mysterio and there has been some news on what the original plans for him would have been. Both Dana Brooke and Rey Mysterio's health also came into play. They were unable to compete in the SmackDown Women’s Championship elimination match and allegedly, for the United States Championship against Andrade, respectively.

Rey Mysterio explained that he missed WrestleMania 36 because of fatigue rather than an active infection. Had he been fit to fight, he was apparently set to feature in a battle with Ángel Garza, Andrade, Rey Mysterio and Humberto Carrillo for the United States Championship.

Dave Meltzer reported in the Wrestling Observer Newsletter has also corroborated the fact that Rey was originally scheduled to be involved in a United States Championship match against Andrade in either a one on one bout or a multi-person contest though he brought in Aleister Black as a possible opponent at that time.

Mysterio himself had previous said to TV Insider that he'd be prepared to put his iconic mask on the line against Andrade's hair in the match:

"I think the goal right now — after [Monday's] outcome in the Andrade ladder match — I think something along the ways that if he wants to keep feuding and going a step further, I’m willing to put my mask on the line versus his hair for a WrestleMania moment."
