Everything You Need To Know About The NWA's 70th Anniversary Pay-Per-View
4. The Worlds Heavyweight Championship
The “Ten Pounds of Gold,” as its long been referred to, was initially established alongside the NWA in 1948. However, like the Women's World belt, its lineage predates the Alliance itself, as it traces its roots all the way back to George Hackenschmidt's reign in 1905.
Throughout the its history, the Alliance’s Worlds title has been held by some of the most respected and revered legends in all of wrestling -- from Lou Thesz and Jack Brisco to Ric Flair and Dusty Rhodes to even Sting and AJ Styles. There is no championship in the world with a history as long and a lineage as noted as the NWA’s top prize. While the NWA and its championship belt have seen record highs, they’ve also been through the mire of disappointing lows.
Now, however, with Billy Corgan leading the promotion, the Worlds Championship has returned to the forefront of wrestling with some of today’s top stars vying for the gold. Nick Aldis and Cody have obviously led that charge, but modern day stars and standouts like Willie Mack and Colt Cabana have attempted to hold the cherished ten pounds since its revival.
