Everything You Need To Know About The NWA's 70th Anniversary Pay-Per-View
13. Billy Corgan Buys The Brand
Billy Corgan made waves when he announced that he had bought the National Wrestling Alliance in May of 2017. The Smashing Pumpkins singer and guitarist has a surprising history with wrestling which stretches back farther than many may be aware.
A long time fan, Corgan opened a wrestling promotion of his own when he created Chicago's Resistance Pro. The company achieved mild success before eventually folding in 2014. By the next year, however, he began to work with IMPACT Wrestling and was credited with helping to create Matt Hardy’s popular “Broken” character and storyline. In August 2016, Corgan was announced as the new President of IMPACT, but eventually left the company by November of that year following internal disputes with Anthem Entertainment -- the promotion's new owner.
Not to be disuaded, Corgan purchased the historic and fledgling National Wrestling Alliance in May of last year and has since overhauled the once despondent organization. He's forged new partnerships with promotions like Championship Wrestling from Hollywood and Ring of Honor, as well as a featured spot as part of ALL IN. Now with NWA 70 on the horizon and Cody leading the charge as champion, Corgan's NWA is poised to rejoin the constantly growing wrestling scene.
