Ex-WWE Star Tom Zenk Dies At 59
Former tag star & WCW Television Champion.
Former WWE and WCW star Tom Zenk passed away last week at the age of 59, according to the Minneapolis Star Tribune.
An obituary for Zenk posted on the publication's website records December 9 as the date of his passing. No further details have been reported.
The "Z-Man" originally made a name for himself during the 1980s, winning Wrestling Observer's "Rookie of the Year" award in '84.
After appearances in the territories, he also impressed the WWE hierarchy sufficiently to become a full-time member of their roster in 1986.
There, Zenk and long-time partner Rick Martel reprised their tag team under the name Can-Am Connection.
But it was arguably in WCW - where he spent five years beginning in 1989 - that he made his biggest mark on the business, winning tag team and Television Title gold along the way.
After returning to the independent scene in the mid-to-late '90s, Zenk called time on his career in the squared circle before the age of 40.
Tributes to Zenk are beginning to surface on Twitter, with Missy Hyatt - a former co-worker in WCW and AWF - among those to pay their respects.
