Exclusive Interview With "The Fallen Angel" Christopher Daniels

On Missed Opportunities

AS: Besides yourself what TNA characters did the company drop the ball on the most? CD: I was a little disappointed with the Motor City Machine Guns. I felt it took a really long time for them to be featured and when they were being featured it felt like it was real short lived. I always thought those guys were entertaining and the wrestling was great. I thought those guys, when you got a chance to talk to them, they were really entertaining but they never really capitalized on that. They€™re the first ones that come to my mind anyway. AS: When you and Kazarian started gaining traction did you think you dropped the titles too soon to Chavo and Hernandez at Bound for Glory 2012? CD: Not necessarily. I know that they wanted to do stuff with Chavo and Shawn (Hernandez) for a long time and doing the title switch was going to be good for their team. It was what it was. The things that happened after that, it seemed that it sort of went off the rails for us at that point. It seemed they put a lot of emphasis on makeshift teams that they put together and no one really told us why that was. AS: When Bischoff was there was he the guy in charge of the company? Was Russo? Hogan? CD: It was really hard to tell man. There were a lot of guys who had their fingers in the pot. We dealt a lot with Bischoff and Jason Hervey, especially when we were doing the Claire Lynch angle. It was hard to tell who was the bottom line at that point. AS: Do you watch Raw every week? I saw your Tweet how you and Frankie had nothing to do with Bryan€™s mistress? DC: I don€™t. I live on the West Coast, so if I see the results and I read something that€™s interesting I might watch it. But I don€™t watch it religiously. But that Tweet was a result of my Twitter blowing up because Frankie and I were getting mentioned left right and center over this angle they were doing. So that was really in response to the Twitter world going nuts. AS: Had TNA stayed the course and Hogan and Bischoff never come in do you ever think about where they€™d be now or how things would be different? CD: No, not really. Things happened for a reason. They€™ve made good decisions, and made bad decision and recovered from each of those. So it€™s just the way things have gone. It€™s hard to speculate on what would have been better or worse had things gone that way.

The Most Pressing Question

AS: Would you rather wrestle Buff Bagwell in a Judy Bagwell on a pole match or compete in another reverse battle royal? CD: I actually didn€™t mind the reverse battle royal. Yeah it was fine. It was a challenge to try and make it entertaining because it was such a laughable concept when you think about it. But when it was presented to us we all did our very best with it. I thought it went as well as something like that would go. It was something different. You know there are times when guys are not trying to reinvent the wheel, but do something that hasn€™t been done before. The challenge then comes when a writer comes up with that, the challenge becomes A) make sense and B) entertaining. But I thought we made it as entertaining as we could. Looking back was it the right thing to do? Probably not. But at the time it was like 'let€™s see what happens.' It sort of has been more reviled than it should be. I don€™t think it€™s that bad, but of course it€™s a ridiculous concept to have everyone fighting on the floor first. But the execution of it I didn€™t think it went as bad as that. AS: Yeah, I could see that, because a Judy Bagwell on a Pole is a bit more ridiculous. CD: How did they even attach her to the pole? What did they do? I don€™t remember that. I mean I remember talking about it. My god did they have her in a cage? AS: They actually put her on a forklift. CD: Oh that poor gal. As Rust Cohle from True Detective said "Life's barely long enough to get good at one thing. So be careful what you're good at." Sadly, I can't solve a murder like Rust...or change a tire, or even tie a tie. But I do know all the lyrics to Hulk Hogan's "Real American" theme song and can easily name every Natural Born Thriller from the dying days of WCW. I was once ranked 21st in the United States in Tetris...on the Playstation 3 version...for about a week. Follow along @AndrewSoucek and check out my podcast at wrestlingwithfriends.com
