Fascinating WWE Ideas That Flopped HARD!
1. The SmackDown Hacker
What a damn waste, eh.
That statement can actually be applied to Mustafa Ali's entire run under WWE contract.
Unquestionably one of the most gifted athletes and workers on the roster throughout his time in sports entertainment, Ali seemed poised to break out on a number of occasions over the years.
But perhaps the most infuriating missed opportunity of the star's career went down in the middle of those dark pandemic days.
Midway through 2020, a mysterious hacker began showing up on SmackDown, threatening to expose various stars' secrets and bring the truth to WWE programming as they sat in a hoodie in front of a ton of monitors... somewhere.
And then, after a few months of compelling teases: nothing.
The actually pretty engaging gimmick and potential storyline involving said hacker frequently causing chaos via the revealing of superstar secrets appeared to have been dropped out of nowhere.
Even when WWE did finally bother to acknowledge the fact Ali - who'd become the leader of the doomed squad known as RETRIBUTION by then - was the man in the chair all along, they opted to just have him drop that massive revelation into a hugely forgettable backstage promo on Raw in October 2020.
And if that wasn't bad enough, that would also end up being the last fans heard of the hacker on WWE programming, too.
Months of fascinating build, a ridiculously driven and talented star behind the keyboard, and all kinds of storyline potential, all completely wasted after the most anti-climactic reveal of recent times.
