Who would be the WWE Universe's anchor being star that reality revolves around, like in the MCU?
The latest entry in the Marvel Cinematic Universe, Deadpool & Wolverine, established a concept that there are "anchor beings" for every universe. Essentially, this one particular character is so inherently important to the canon that if they were to be removed, the fabric of reality itself would unravel and that timeline would cease to exist. It worked as a plot device to set up Deadpool and Wolverine teaming up, as well as stakes for Deadpool's friends to be in danger.
But what if we applied that idea to another storyline reality: the WWE Universe?
Of course, as WWE blurs the line between fiction and real-life events, no one being removed from the company causes an actual destruction of our reality. But in theory, WWE is an ongoing television series about professional wrestling, rather than a sport itself. Therefore, it somehow must have an overall central protagonist, even if it's a team effort and no one star is above the company itself and the WWE branding as a whole.
Looking at the over 200 names in the company who are on-screen characters, let's narrow it down to the top 10 potential candidates for the WWE Universe's anchor being.
10. Cody Rhodes
An easy candidate for the WWE Universe's anchor being would be Cody Rhodes. After all, he's holding the Undisputed WWE Championship—the highest prize in the company's history.
Gunther is the top champion on Monday Night Raw, but the World Heavyweight Championship simply doesn't have the lineage and value of Cody's title. At the end of the day, Rhodes is the de facto main-eventer at the moment, and if one of these titles had to disappear, it would be Gunther's, not The American Nightmare's.
This isn't an era where one person is carrying the entire company on their shoulders, like Hulk Hogan used to, but Rhodes is in the closest to that position imaginable. He's the babyface to end all babyfaces, and his journey toward winning that belt was the biggest focal point of the past two years.
If Roman Reigns was the Thanos of WWE, collecting world titles and records like Infinity Stones, Rhodes was Captain America, and not just due to his ring gear. He was the one rallying the troops and leading the charge into battle to make things right again.
