GLOW Season 2 Review: 7 Ups And 1 Down

6. Betty Gilpin Becomes The Real Star

At the centre of Season 1 of GLOW was Ruth, a down-on-her-luck actress played by Alison Brie, with Marc Maron's Sam and Betty Gilpin's Debbie serving more as key support than co-leads.

This time around, while Brie is still a crucial part of the show (and as good as ever), Gilpin really steps up. As Liberty Belle she is the star of GLOW, the show-within-a-show, but also very much the star of the series itself too.

Gilpin handles this added responsibility expertly, nailing the more dramatic scenes with a sense of frustration and longing because of the predicament she's in as a single-mother and someone who has to really fight to be taken seriously, but always ensuring to have a lot of fun as well, and few can match her when it comes to delivering a truly withering put-down. Debbie really takes the lead as the show needs some direction, and Gilpin just keeps getting better and better.
