Looking back, despite some highlights here or there, it's fair to say that Ronda Rousey never fell in love with pro wrestling the way WWE claimed. Maybe that's harsh, because she almost-certainly worked hard, but something did feel...off, especially during her latest run in the promotion.

Rousey's "MMA Rules" encounter vs. old pal and former tag partner Shayna Baszler summed it all up. It became obvious just seconds in that the live crowd in Detroit didn't give a toss about some subpar UFC knock off. Both workers visibly froze too, and people were glad to see the back of it by the end.

Their MMA scuffle was the worst match on the SummerSlam 2023 card by a mile, and might actually be one of the weakest SummerSlam bouts ever. Blame for that must go to the UFC-lite approach, and to both women for failing to realise their humdrum action was tanking.

There was a real lack of energy surrounding the whole segment, but it was scheduled for approx 15 minutes curtain to curtain on the format sheets so that's what fans got.
