How Charlotte Flair Is Beating Her Dad’s WWE Legacy
Yes, the younger Flair has been crowned 'Queen' on 10 different occasions, but how many stand out as legitimately important title reigns? How many of them meant anything?
Charlotte's NXT Women's Championship run remains her longest at 258 days. This spell preceded the belt's peak years under Sasha Banks, Bayley, and Asuka, though it was significant foundational reign nonetheless. Flair overseeing the main roster's transition from Divas to Women's Championship in 2016 should be seen as equally impactful. From there, one could credibly argue her first run was SmackDown Women's Champion (November 2017 to April 2018) was similarly noteworthy.
The other seven don't reach the same heights, with 2016's relentless hot-shotting with Banks diminishing the Raw Women's Championship's prestige and Charlotte's 2019 record the most egregious of all. March's win over Asuka was a transparent move to add the blue belt to the WrestleMania 35 main event, May's was only there to facilitate Bayley's Money In The Bank cash-in, and October's was another needless game of hot potato.
And yet, WWE are conditioning fans to treat these reigns on the same level as Ric's greatest spells on top. They're insulting your intelligence. These aren't meaningful runs, but empty numbers to pad an inflated body of work that will soon break what should be one of wrestling's most incredible record, and it sucks.
