How Scott D’Amore And Don Callis Saved IMPACT Wrestling
While D'Amore and Callis weren't given a completely clean slate to work with, they had to start somewhere. Their first order of business was to completely overhaul the direction the company was heading in, both from an in-ring standpoint and behind the scenes. A working agreement with Twitch to broadcast regular IMPACT-related content on the streaming service is a major example of this. Fans were able to watch weekly episodes of IMPACT Wrestling, alongside a host of original and historical content, without needing access to cable television.
This in itself was headline-worthy.
On D'Amore and Callis' first night in charge, not only did they revert to the traditional four-sided wrestling, they also brought in a plethora of talented stars, some of whom were legitimately huge deals, who would go on to do tremendous things in IMPACT. Former World Champion Austin Aries returned to his former home promotion, whereas Brian Cage, Su Yung, Kiera Hogan, and The Lucha Brothers - Pentagon Jr. and Fenix - all made their officials debuts with the company.
In order to comprehend Scott and Don's decision to introduce so many new faces at once in a scenario where it would have been easy for them to get lost in the shuffle, you need only look at the accolades of the six names following their respective signings. Aries and Cage both became World Champion, Aries doing so during his first night back in the company, Yung is a two-time Knockouts Champion, Pentagon and Fenix not only held the World Tag Team Championships but also brought new life into IMPACT's doubles division with their wars against LAX, and Kiera is half of the current Knockouts Tag Team Champions alongside Tasha Steelz. These names weren't just being signed because lol why not; they were signed to make a change.
D'Amore and Callis have a real eye for talent. It hasn't changed since this early period, either.
