How Sonya Deville Responded To Triple H's Awkward Question During WWE Tough Enough Audition

Not the kind of life-changing moment you'd expect to have in a job interview!

WWE haven't done the best job with Sonya Deville. She's a bland heel on SmackDown right now, and has only been able to show some of her true sparkle on episodes of Total Divas.

It's safe to say Deville's real-life journey through the WWE system is far more interesting than her on-screen character. WWE’s writers haven't been able to connect her likeable promotion of LGBTQ rights away from the ring to one fans enjoy inside it, and she herself has struggled on and off with how her sexuality might be construed by others around her.

Sonya told FOX News recently that during her original Tough Enough audition she hesitated when Triple H asked the simple question, "Are you in a relationship?". No, Trips wasn't hitting on Deville, he was gauging her dedication to the industry. Despite the straightforward question, Sonya froze. She hadn't fully come out as gay yet and worried what people might think.

It took a bit of nerve for Deville to answer, "Yeah, I have a girlfriend". To her surprise, nobody batted an eyelid or judged her.

The whole thing was a learning process for Sonya, and it helped her realise that she was putting more pressure on herself internally than others were.
