Approaching seven years since the inaugural Evolution event, WWE is finally back with a second outing for its all-female Premium Live Event.

On headline duties, it's expected to be IYO SKY defending her WWE Women's World Championship against Rhea Ripley as the match to close out Evolution, although WWE could always surprise fans by going with the WWE Women's Championship bout of Tiffany Stratton vs. Trish Stratus as the PLE's main event.

Elsewhere, we've got the WWE Women's Tag Team Titles on the line, Becky Lynch defends the Women's Intercontinental Championship in a triple-threat, and NXT Champion Jacy Jayne likewise has herself a tough test in the shape of Jordynne Grace.

Rounding out the Evolution card as of this writing, the heated rivalry between Jade Cargill and Naomi rumbles on, and there's a battle royal that offers up all kinds of possibilities as to what surprise entrants we'll see.

The second-ever WWE Evolution happens this Sunday, emanating from Atlanta, Georgia's State Farm Arena, the night after that very same venue plays host to the latest edition of Saturday Night's Main Event.

Where the Evolution main event is concerned, all signs point to IYO SKY vs. Rhea Ripley in that spot. With IYO being allowed to handpick her Evolution opponent, the current WWE Women's World Champion opted to give Rhea Ripley a chance to reclaim the prize that the Genius of the Sky took from her back in March. As has been pointed out on WWE programming in recent weeks, Rhea has yet to ever beat SKY in singles action, whether that's on Raw, on a PLE, in NXT, or even dating as far back as the 2018 Mae Young Classic. With these two having had several fantastic wars over the years, this one could well end up being Match of the Night when all's said and done at Evolution.

Switching over to the SmackDown brand, and WWE Women's Champion Tiffany Stratton was also afforded the opportunity to choose her Evolution opponent, and Tiffy surprised many by turning her attention to her one-time tag partner Trish Stratus. Of course, Stratton and Stratus teamed up to pick up a win over Nia Jax and Candice LeRae at Elimination Chamber in March, and Trish showed in that match and her 2023 rivalry with Becky Lynch that she can certainly still go. Is there enough left in the tank for the WWE Hall of Famer to add one more piece of championship gold to her stacked resumé, or will it be Tiffany walking into SummerSlam as the defending Women's Champion against Queen of the Ring Jade Cargill?

As for Jade, Evolution sees the heated rivalry between her and Naomi once again rear its head, with Cargill demanding another match against Naomi following a backstage attack on SmackDown last week. And with Naomi regularly blindsiding Jade, the former AEW favourite has had this contest confirmed to be a No Holds Barred one. Then again, Naomi does have the Money in the Bank briefcase to her name, so there's always the possibility that she might have another role to play at Evolution...

In terms of heated rivals, things have been nicely simmering over between Becky Lynch, Lyra Valkyria, and Bayley lately, all with Lynch's Women's Intercontinental Championship at the centre of all of this. That would be the belt that Becky beat Lyra for at Money in the Bank last month, and the belt that Bayley also has her sights on as payback for Lynch injuring the Role Model at WrestleMania 41. So, both Valkyria and Bayley have plenty of previous with Becky, just now with tensions having imploded between the two of them, too.

Where the WWE Women's Tag Team Championships are concerned, Evolution finds eight women battling to walk out of State Farm Arena with those titles. Heading into the PLE, the Judgment Day's Raquel Rodriguez and Roxanne Perez have to defend their belts against Raw's Kabuki Warriors, SmackDown's Alexa Bliss and Charlotte Flair, and NXT's ZaRuca tandem of Zaria and Sol Ruca.

Sticking with NXT, the current top dog in the brand's women's division is also in action at WWE Evolution, with Jacy Jayne putting her NXT Women's Championship on the line against the ever-impressive Jordynne Grace. The Juggernaut has been a dominant force since landing in WWE, but will that dominance continue at Evolution and see a new NXT Women's Champion crowned, or will Jacy and her Fatal Influence buddies manage to get one over on Thicc Mama Pump?

Of course, one of the most intriguing matches on the WWE Evolution line-up is the battle royal that grants the winner a World Title shot at Clash in Paris next month. Nikki Bella, Ivy Nile, and Stephanie Vaquer were the first names announced for that over-the-top extravaganza, with this week's NXT seeing Ava confirm that the brand will be represented here by Jaida Parker, Kelani Jordan, Lash Legend, Lola Vica, Izza Dame, and Tatum Paxley. On top of that, the show-closing segment for that episode of NXT indicated that Natalya, Maxxine Dupri, Giulia, Zelina Vega, and Candice LeRae will be a part of that bout, with Nia Jax another expected to be a participant. Despite all of those names, there's still plenty of room for surprise and legends, such as how a similar battle royal at Evolution 2018 featured appearances from the likes of Alundra Blazye, Ivory, Molly Holly, Torrie Wilson, Michelle McCool, and Kelly Kelly.

Whether WWE adds any further matches to the Evolution card before Sunday remains to be seen, but considering that the company these days tends to operate with five-match line-ups for its PLEs, it seems likely that the seven announced matches may well be enough for this hotly anticipated event.
