Hulk Hogan: 5 Awesome Matches And 5 That Sucked

2. Hollywood Hogan vs. The Warrior - Halloween Havoc 1998

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_onsAu6SZH8 The Fireball Fiasco This was undoubtedly Hulk Hogan's worst lengthy showdown. Although DDP and Goldberg headlined the show, The Hulkster was booked just before, against his longtime friend and rival, The (Ultimate) Warrior. Hogan entered the match as part of the nWo (New World Order), which he joined €“ turning heel in the process €“ two years before at Bash at the Beach. By this point, the nWo were an established force, gaining the WCW ratings galore and forcing wrestling fans to take a second glance when faced with a baffling choice between the two main companies. This match was built up with a bad storyline, involving €“ amongst lots of other things €“ a segment involving a mirror that just has to be seen to be believed. Thus, the stage was set for a battle that could have at least be a little bit entertaining, even if that was just because it was comically bad. Kicking off with a predictably lackadaisical pace, the two dinosaurs traded similar spots as at their epic Wrestlemania 6 showdown, but without any of the hype and prestige of the former classic. Hogan no longer had Hulkamania behind him and The Warrior was certainly no longer The Ultimate Warrior of his heyday. As a result, these same spots were diluted due to a complete deficiency of emotion. Eventually, The Giant (now better known as Big Show) intruded once the referee was knocked out. The match sloppily continued as The Warrior overcame a selection of run-ins from the nWo and Hogan began to whip Warrior with his weight lifting belt. It was at this point €“ as Warrior went for a splash €“ that the crowd essentially lost interest in the bout. Hogan tried to light something from his pocket €“ presumably a fireball - but it didn't work, to the utter disappointment of all in attendance and the embarrassment of Hogan himself. Horace Hogan (The Hulkster's nephew) intervened, hitting The Warrior with a chair on the back of his rock-solid head. Hogan eventually scored the pinfall and the match was over. Horace and The Hulkster were about to set The Warrior on fire, but were wrestled out of the ring by security instead. This match was so bad, not just due to it's content, but because of the complete and utter disappointment that it instilled in the hearts of all that watched it. Disastrous.
