Hulk Hogan: 5 Best And 5 Worst WCW Moments

4. 6-Time World Heavyweight Champion

Wcw Hulk Hogan The WCW World Heavyweight Championship was arguably the most prestigious title in the wrestling world. It was created in 1991 after Ric Flair had left the company and taken the Big Gold Belt with him to the World Wrestling Federation -- calling himself the €œreal world€™s champion.€ In effect that was true. Flair never lost the title, and although he was stripped of it by WCW, the NWA still recognized him as their champion for the time being. WCW eventually split from the NWA in 1993, but continued to use the Big Gold Belt itself, which they owned. Despite the split between the two companies, their tight-knit history and continued use of the traditional title belt meant that the lineage of NWA and WCW World champions was intertwined. This lent a great deal of prestige to whoever held the World Heavyweight Championship, and many individuals were lucky to say the held the gold even once in their career. Hulk Hogan, on the other hand, was a 6-time WCW champion -- second only to Ric Flair€™s eight reigns. Despite holding the championship fewer times than Flair, however, Hogan was champion for a longer period of time -- a total of 1,177 days. The Hulkster also won the championship, as previously mentioned, during his debut match in the company -- somewhat fittingly, by defeating the Nature Boy. This would lead to Hogan€™s longest single reign as champ -- as well as the longest single reign for any WCW World Heavyweight Champion. After carrying the title for more than a year -- 469 days, to be exact -- the Hulkster dropped the belt to the Giant, who became the youngest WCW World champion of all time. Hogan would not regain the title until after his turn and the formation of the New World Order. He would defeat the Giant, who was in his second reign, at Hog Wild on August 10th of 1996, and would again be champion for nearly a year. Before all was said and done -- that being the end of WCW -- Hogan would be champion of the world another four times, bringing his total to six reigns. Combined with his Federation title reigns, the Hulkster was a 12-time world champion -- a feat few can ever claim to have achieved.
