3. 84 Consecutive Weeks
WWE.comThe Monday Night War got its start on September 4, 1995 and would last until Vince McMahons purchase of WCW in March of 2001. During that period of warfare and turmoil between the rival companies, WCW would end up beating the World Wrestling Federation for 84 consecutive weeks in television ratings. It was a victory that would be lauded and bragged about by Ted Turners organization. Eric Bischoff, who had been promoted to Executive Vice President in 1994, had decided to take the fight to Vince McMahon beginning in 1995 with the debut of WCWs Monday Nitro -- a new primetime program for WCW that would go head-to-head with the WWFs already in existence Monday Night Raw. From the onset, the ratings war would be a pretty even battle, with each show maintaining its core audience, but also failing to turn fans of the other organization. However, all of that would change on June 6, 1996. Only a week prior, the WWFs Razor Ramon had hopped the guard rail and entered the ring on WCW television. By June 6th, word had spread, and fans of both wrestling companies were intrigued. Under Bischoffs command of WCW, and with the help of Ted Turners nearly infinite funds, WCW would carry the momentum of Scott Halls invasion to a rousing 84 consecutive week domination of the WWF. The start of WCWs dominance would come at the hand of the Outsiders -- Scott Hall and Kevin Nash -- however, it would be cemented by the formation of the New World Order. When Hulk Hogan turned on the fans and on the WCW locker room, dubbing himself Hollywood Hogan, the wrestling world was stunned. Fans across the country couldnt help but tune in to see what would happen next. Now, were not saying that the 84 week reign of WCW was solely the work of Hogan. However, its quite clear that he was a huge factor in the victory. Its arguable that without Hogan and his new Hollywood persona, WCW may not have ever beaten the Federation in such a decisive fashion. The company also had help from its homegrown stars -- Diamond Dallas Page, Sting, and Goldberg. However, in most cases, these stars were put up against Hogan, whose feuds with various other popular wrestlers kept fans compelled. Theres no doubt though that a huge achievement on the résumé of Hulk Hogan is his contribution to World Championship Wrestlings dominance of the Monday Night War for over a year and a half.
