8. Mr. Nanny
Every. Single. Action. Hero. Makes. One. Of. These. What the hell? Arnold in Kindergarten Cop. Stallone in Stop or My Mom Will Shoot. Vin Diesel in The Pacifier. Michael Keaton in Mr. Mom (okay, we just threw that one in there, he wasn't an action star then, or ever, really, but hey, it seemed to fit). What is it with action heroes thinking that the family comedy thing is a good idea? To be fair, Hogan had already done the comedy/family thing with Suburban Commando (we'll get to that later) immediately before Mr. Nanny, so we guess it seemed as if more of the same was a good idea. No Holds Barred didn't really work out, but Suburban Commando didn't totally tank, so Mr. Nanny was a natural progression of sorts. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GGwe0XCo4Sw The real problem is that in putting together this movie, the writers basically watched Home Alone, tweaked it a little, added Hogan, and pressed "bake" to come up with a luke-warm rehash of recycled ideas. Hogan is stiff at times, while decent at others - though how having a champion beloved by kids everywhere utter "I hate kids" in a snarl seemed like a good idea is beyond us. Just like we wonder who convinced Hogan to put on the tutu. The film also starred David Johansen and Sherman Hemsley, so it's not like they didn't try.
