If WWE Was Being Honest About The XFL

The Dallas Renegades are where “big meets bold meets badass”, and yes, every single godd*mn team announcement was crammed full of alliteration. And might these “Renegades” actually rebel, and take a knee? Of course not! They’re not renegades - it’s all very poorly thought-out marketing!

Essentially, Vince got the WWE creative team to write this copy, and thus the XFL is f*cked. And it’s not just the quirks of Vince language that make this entire video a mockery; the whole narrative is setting up the XFL as a carny exercise in big daft bullsh*t. The team names are silly, the voiceovers very WWE, the invitation to mockery fully extended. The XFL, already a wildly optimistic venture, is Such Good Sh*t.

The social media reaction to the recent team name announcements, predictably, was widespread bemusement. Well, not widespread; the preposterous announcements barely trended, unable to even find their way home to the land of memes. You can imagine Homer Simpson, XFL flag in hand, was about the only person who didn’t think of this video as a load of sh*te. That YouTube video, uploaded August 21, has in just under a week received 71,167 views at time of writing.

Virtually nobody, relative to the number of football fans, seems to care. Moreover, the city announcement video views range from 20,881 (Dallas) to 6,963 (Tampa Bay).
