Injured Sami Zayn To Miss Most Of 2015
Former NXT Champ will miss most of 2015.
Former NXT Champion Sami Zayn underwent shoulder surgery on Tuesday in Birmingham, Alabama according to PWInsider. It's a torn rotator cuff and while there's no official word on how long he'll be out of action, it's likely going to keep him out of action for up to six months. Zayn injured the shoulder in his hometown on Montreal on May 4 when he wrestled against John Cena. Zayn was out of action for the next two weeks before making his return at last week's NXT Takeover Unstoppable event. He had a match against NXT Champion Kevin Owens where Zayn was on fire for the first part of the match, but Owens stopped him and nailed him with a Powerbomb against the side of the ring apron. The match stopped there with Zayn selling the injury as a way to write him out of storylines. Apparently the shoulder injury is something that has plagued Zayn from before his WWE days. He's been in WWE since January 2013, so he's been working through whatever this shoulder injury is for the past two years. He showed no signs of injury for the past two years and then he had that match with Kevin Owens in February where he was viciously attacked. Zayn was off for over a month after that, but when he returned to action he appeared to be fine. It was such a freaky injury for Zayn because he got hurt while hyping up the crowd when he was on the ring steps in preparation for his match. He gutted it out during the match and it made him look like such a great fighting babyface that didn't want to give up despite the obvious pain he was in. If Zayn does miss the rest of this year, he could make a big splash in early 2016. He really doesn't need to be on NXT anymore because he's been NXT Champion and is definitely one of the best wrestlers alive. It's not like he needs more time in developmental considering how well rounded he is. Zayn isn't the only WWE star currently out with a shoulder injury since Jey Uso had surgery a few months ago, then Goldust and fellow NXT star Hideo Itami had surgery this week as well. It's just another reminder that professional wrestling or "sports entertainment" is a very tough business. https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3f0Fp2WphG4
