Epic WrestleMania contests, dramatic title changes, and a modern classic of a Royal Rumble.

WWE has undergone several seismic shifts in its history, to the point where the rends of one era are often unrecognisable from the next. However, an appreciation of great wrestling matches remains constant, and the company's storied past is littered with utter gems.

Here I attempt to break down my ten favourite matches WWE of all time - never an easy task, but a very fun list to compile. You may notice an abundance of particular favourites (especially Shawn Michaels), but I hope that says more about the lasting quality of such performers than my own terrible, terrible bias.

Of course, every time I look back on this list, I find myself disagreeing with one element or another, but one aspect I remain pleased with is the variety. It contains long WrestleMania epics, rough-edged brawls, slick modern matches, and - of course - a Royal Rumble match; how could I leave out the greatest stipulation in wrestling history?

Hopefully this collection of matches inspires you to check out any you're unfamiliar with (they're all available on the WWE Network, of course), as they're all utterly brilliant in their own right.

10. The Undertaker Vs. Shawn Michaels - Badd Blood 1997

In terms of pure Attitude Era spectacle and pageantry, few matches top the first ever Hell In A Cell encounter at Bad Blood: In Your House.

The bout itself sees Undertaker and Michaels on top of their respective games, the Deadman chasing a visibly terrified HBK around the ring - but its legendary status is cemented not by the match quality, but by the awesome finish.

In one of the most impactful, terrifying debuts in WWE history, Kane (who had been alluded to over the previous months) stormed down to the ring with Paul Bearer. His imposing appearance, coupled with Jim Ross' legendary call - "that's gotta be Kane!" - instantly cemented the match's place in history, even before the Big Red Machine ripped the cell door clean off its hinges.

Hidden Highlight: HBK beating up a cameraman, forcing officials to unlock the cell and allow him a moment's respite from the Deadman.
