Jade Cargill Was Supposed To Win WWE Women's Title Before 2024 Injury (WWE News)
WWE had to postpone Jade Cargill's title push, which included WrestleMania 41 success.
Dave Meltzer told fans via Monday's Wrestling Observer Radio that rising star Jade Cargill was supposed to win gold before her injury and subsequent comeback angle forced a drastic change of plans. According to Meltzer, Jade was going to bag either the WWE Women's or Women's World Championships before rolling into WrestleMania 41 as champ.
Yes, before.
On Monday's episode of WWE Raw, Cargill defeated Roxanne Perez in a Queen Of The Ring semi final match. Now, she advances to the final stage for a showdown with Asuka at Night Of Champions 2025 over in Saudi Arabia this weekend. Win that, and Jade would be guaranteed a bumper title match at SummerSlam this August.
Meltzer believes that'll happen, because he thinks Triple H only postponed Cargill's mega-push rather than choosing to move in a completely different direction with the women's division. Whilst Asuka is a deserving veteran, she's also more of a star-maker than an outright focal point herself these days. So, the ex-Royal Rumble winner could be staring at the lights over in Riyadh as Jade celebrates becoming QOTR.
That'd mark Cargill's first significant success as a singles wrestler. Previously, she enjoyed a couple of Women's Tag-Team Title runs alongside Bianca Belair, but Jade was always going to break out on her own - that time with Bianca was mere (albeit essential) preparation for Cargill flying solo, and everybody knew it.
Of course, if Jade does win Queen Of The Ring, then there's a feud resumption staring WWE's creative team straight in the face.
Title Win Could Resume Naomi Feud
Naomi has blossomed since outing herself as the woman who attacked Jade late last year and being rethought as a dangerous, vindictive heel. Her performances both on the mic and inside the ring have been strong. Triple H clearly agrees with that sentiment, because he booked Naomi to win Money In The Bank at the titular PLE on 7 June.
Since then, Naomi has been hunting down reigning Women's Champ and reborn babyface Tiffany Stratton on episodes of SmackDown, but Nia Jax has also been inserted into that story as a distraction. WWE might well be killing time on Fridays until they can get back to Cargill vs. Naomi.
In theory, that could be in the pipeline for either the Women's Title or Raw's Women's World Championship straps. If Jade wins QOTR then challenges IYO SKY and wins at SummerSlam in early-August, then WWE could have Naomi cruelly cash-in MITB on her instead of Stratton.
That's food for thought. It'd cut Jade's first major singles title win short straight away, but it'd also mean she'd have reason to go after Naomi all over again and eventually win the belt back.
