Jerry Lawler 'It's Good To Be The King' DVD Review: 17 Interesting Observations

5. Jerry Lawler: For The People

Lawler ran for mayor of Memphis in 1999 as he was fed up with the political scene in the city. He was the most recognisable face from the city while he had been inspired by Jesse 'The Body' Ventura's work. Jerry just had to try and make a change thanks to Ventura, as he knew that a wrestler would now be taken seriously and could viably be elected to public office. Surprisingly, Stacey Carter, or Miss Kitty to WWE fans makes an appearance in the film. This was a bit of a surprise due to the fact that she and The King got divorced back in 2003. She revealed that when the pair had any spare time from life on the road, they would spend it campaigning. Life must have been very tough on the pair. She also revealed how certain politicians would approach Jerry and ask him not to stand, as they were legitimately worried that he would win. Lawler would eventually come third out of 12 candidates, only 30,000 votes behind the incumbent mayor's 70,000.
