Following his loss to Roman Reigns at WWE SummerSlam 2021 last night, could John Cena really be done as an in-ring talent?

On today's episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, Dave Meltzer stated how there are no immediate plans to bring Cena back to WWE after his SummerSlam loss, and added how "we may not be seeing John Cena again ever, as he's a movie star now".

While Cena very much is a movie star these days, it seems highly unlikely that he'll never compete in a WWE ring again. But still, stranger things have happened.

Once the 16-time World Champion returned to WWE TV last month, it was announced that he would be making a whole bunch of appearances on TV and at live events as part of the Summer of Cena Tour. Of all of the dates announced at that time, SummerSlam was the last one that Cena was confirmed to appear on.

As it stands, Big Match John is heading off imminently to film Matthew Vaughn's Argylle. Whether Cena makes an appearance on this week's Raw or SmackDown to deliver a (likely temporary) farewell speech remains to be seen.
