At a WWE live event in Shanghai, China, John Cena showcased his newest finishing move: the ‘Lightning Fist’. The match saw Cena team up with Finn Bálor and Bobby Lashley to defeat the trio of Elias, Jinder Mahal and Baron Corbin in six-man tag-team action. Cena used his new finisher, which is simply a fast punch to the face, to take out Elias and score the pinfall victory for his team.

Cena chose to incorporate some of the moves he learnt when filming a Jackie Chan movie in China to create the Lightning Fist:

“So I wanted to use some of the things that I learned in training with the stunt team and incorporate in my offensive moveset to pay respect and homage to my wonderful time in China. So the guys taught me a little bit of bajiquan and it’s a very fast, very defensive kung fu mechanism which is meant for close quarter stuff. And I just kind of modified it a little bit and came up with the Lightning Fist.”

John even went so far as to showcase what he nicknamed as his ‘Sixth Move Of Doom’ on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

Samoa Joe had a strong opinion about the Lightning Fist when asked, clearly hating it:

"The sixth move of doom? Yeah. So John Cena went to China, took some lessons, an all of a sudden, now he’s got a bad palm strike. Listen, I’ve been traveling the world for years and I’ve been beating up people with martial arts techniques from far superior styles and techniques. So, I ain’t worried about that (Lightning Fist). You can come throw that back just all you want, and when you catch a foot in your face, you tell me how effective it is.”

The Lightning Fist led to a giant debate online - what was more annoying: Roman Reigns’ Superman Punch or John Cena’s new move?
