John Cena’s 10 Failures As WWE's Franchise Star

10. PPV Decline Under His Watch

During the Monday Night Wars, Stone Cold, The Rock and Shawn Michaels were the wrestlers people paid to see, and now John Cena is the man on top but some of the worst PPVs fans have seen have come under his watch (Capitol Punishment and No Way Out ring any bells?). All you have to do is look at the facts; WWE€™s average buys for a PPV (excluding WrestleMania, Royal Rumble & SummerSlam) have dropped by 200,000 since the rise of John Cena. The only increase you see in the buyrates is when a part timer such as The Rock, Brock Lesnar or Triple H are scheduled to appear, which makes you understand all the more why WWE is relying on them more than the talent currently on staff. There are many other factors to take into WWE€™s PPV buyrate decline, one being the over saturation of monthly events (and in some cases twice a month), mediocre matches, the poor storytelling and sometimes non-existent buildup. The internet is another huge factor as free streams are far too easy to come across nowadays and do cost the WWE a lot of money, but the fact is none of that should matter as fans will always pour money into the company to see their favourites, unfortunately, that just doesn't seem to be the case with John Cena. WWE€™s buyrates have dropped so much over the past decade it makes you understand why they constantly push John Cena and most importantly his merchandise since they€™ve got to make up the money somewhere, unfortunately it does come at a price and that does seem to be the fans€™ overall satisfaction with the product.
