John Cena's 10 Greatest WWE Moments
5. The US Championship Open Challenge - 2015
Speaking of the US Open Challenge... Midcard titles, by and large, have been treated like trash in WWE for years. Examples of men bringing some credibility back to the belts are few and far between. The Miz, Daniel Bryan, and Sami Zayn all made the Intercontinental Championship feel special again, but the United States Championship has barely been relevant in this century - except when John Cena picked it up in 2015.
Taking a break from the constant main events, Cena reinvented the US title - and his own image, in a way - by defending the belt week after week live on TV in an Open Challenge. We got fresh matches almost every time, saw some Superstars take on Big Match John that we never thought we would see, and it gave the title constant visibility.
WWE did the same thing with Randy Orton around this time, and look where The Viper is now. It was special seeing Cena with the title that kicked off his rise, and it was obvious to everyone that the record-holding world champ still coveted the belt.
