John Cena surprised many fans when he retained the WWE Title at WrestleMania 23, forcing tag team partner Shawn Michaels to submit to the STF in the show's main event. However, the story between the two would continue -- Michaels cost the duo their tag titles on Raw, setting up a grudge match between the two men.
This bout -- which was held on Raw in London and took place on Cena's 30th birthday -- wouldn't be for the WWE Championship, but would instead be held with pride and honor on the line. That didn't make the fight any less intense, though -- the match started at the 10 PM mark and ended up lasting for the rest of the show.
This time, it would be Michaels who was victorious. Though he was unable to pin Cena after his first Sweet Chin Music, another one put the champ down and allowed HBK to get the pinfall. The match lasted over 55 minutes, and was immediately called one of the greatest bouts in the history of Monday Night Raw.
