John Cena's WWE Return: 10 Things We Can Expect

5. The NXT Ratings Grab

Since the Wednesday Night Wars concluded earlier this year, NXT's numbers have hovered roughly around where they were when wrestling audiences had to choose between the black-and-gold brand and AEW Dynamite.

This isn't a great sign. The numbers have undulated, spiking for odd moments and even teasing trends for such programmes as the Adam Cole/Kyle O'Reilly feud and the general antics of Samoa Joe, but nothing's been so successful that it's transferred into some over-the-top attention for the much maligned third brand.

John Cena would be an earthquake in that barren wasteland.

John Cena would look so huge in the Capitol Wrestling Center that they'd probably have to move out of the f*cking thing just to appear credible again.

John Cena would actually get somebody over.

What may once had scanned as sacrilege is now more of a necessity than ever before. Karrion Kross is completely and utterly doomed as the show's Champion thanks to his humbling debut loss to Jeff Hardy on Monday Night Raw, and that booking sent a loud message to the rest of the roster about their prospects.

Cena, in all his bright colours and for one night only, could be a ray of hope.
