It appears Jackass star Johnny Knoxville had landed himself a spot in the 2022 men's Royal Rumble match.

Knoxville yesterday took to Instagram to talk up how he's decided he wants to win this year's Rumble, throwing shots at both Big E and Roman Reigns in the process. Stating how his training "starts today", the 50-year-old rookie promised to channel The Rock, Abdullah the Butcher and Gorilla Monsoon in his attempt to win the over-the-top extravaganza and potentially book himself a spot at WrestleMania 38.

WWE responded to Knoxville's Insta video by wishing him good luck, and this same video ended up being shown during last night's WWE Day 1 PPV - seemingly making Johnny's Royal Rumble participation official.

Of course, all of this is a promotional crossover designed to put the impending Jackass Forever in the spotlight. That movie will be released worldwide from 4 February, and this latest promotional push comes hot on the heels of Johnny Knoxville, Chris Pontius and other Jackass names appearing on an episode of SmackDown last month.

Knoxville and his Jackass crew do have previous with WWE, with Pontius and Steve-O famously getting decimated by Umaga on an October 2006 Raw outing. That was followed in 2008 and 2010 by further WWE appearances from the Jackass gang, as they found themselves interacting with The Great Khali, Santino Marella, Beth Phoenix and Hornswoggle over the years.

The 2022 Royal Rumble PPV is set to emanate from The Dome at America's Center in St. Louis, Missouri on 29 January.
