Kenny Omega Talks Failed Explosion At AEW Revolution 2021
How did the anti-climactic conclusion to AEW Revolution 2021 make Kenny Omega feel?
Kenny Omega described the conclusion to his Exploding Barbed Wire Deathmatch with Jon Moxley at AEW Revolution 2021 as "deflating", according to the Wrestling Observer Newsletter.
The botched explosion ending to the Revolution main event has been the talk of the wrestling world ever since Sunday's highly anticipated event finally landed on our screens. Though early reports suggested that the current AEW World Champion was "furious", it now appears that, after a few days worth of reflecting, this fury has been replaced with disappointment.
Whilst talking to the WON, Omega explained:
"Yeah, it was really deflating to do so much preparation, test the explosions, have them be impressive in the rehearsal, and then have it be something so much different than what was promised. It made me appreciate everyone who worked hard and did their part even more, though."
This statement confirms that the company did in fact test the explosions beforehand, making the fact that they weren't able to replicate the supposedly "impressive" effects on the night that little more heart-breaking in hindsight.
In the wake of the lacklustre conclusion, depicting Eddie Kingston throwing his body over his old friend Moxley in a bid to protect him from the potential pyrotechnics, AEW have attempted to cover their tracks on-screen by suggesting that this may have been Omega's plan all along and Kingston had blacked out in the heat of the moment.
Here's hoping that if the company attempt something similar in the future, the stars involved are spared another soul-crushing finale like the one witnessed on March 7.
