Kenny Omega is vacating the AAA Mega Championship.

Dave Meltzer and Bryan Alvarez revealed as much on the latest episode of Wrestling Observer Radio, stating that an announcement on how AAA plans to crown a new champion is expected imminently. Some sort of multi-person match has been speculated, though fans won't know for sure until the announcement, which could come as soon as today or tomorrow.

This comes following news that Omega's scheduled defence against El Hijo Del Vikingo scheduled for Triplemania Regia II on 4 December had been cancelled. Kenny is currently suffering from a litany of injuries, including an abdominal hernia and neck and shoulder problems, for which he is due to go under the knife, necessitating time away from wrestling.

The Mega Championship is the last of the three World Titles Omega has held in 2021 to fall. Though he entered the year with it and the AEW World Title in his possession, he adopted an Ultimo Dragon-style 'Belt Collector' gimmick upon becoming IMPACT World Champion in April, dropping that strap to Christian Cage four months later.

Omega had been Mega Champion since October 2019, when he defeated Rey Fenix.
