9. Triple H Vs. Cactus Jack - Royal Rumble 2000

At the time this was merely the latest chapter in a storied rivalry that took place in front of and behind the curtain. This was a rivalry brimmed with weapons... oh the weapons... the wood, the steel, the tacks...

PHWOAH!

This match was a defining moment in both men's careers as it turned out to be not just one of the finest and most brutally brilliant in Rumble history, but one of the best in wrestling history, too.

This match was driven by Triple H, who was dastardly trying to prove his status as one of the lead competitors in the business, while Mick was driven by nothing more than raw emotion as his time as a full-time in-ring performer started to near its end.

Hunter and Steph had humiliated Foley for months, handing him his walking papers and even hiring a fake Mankind (portrayed by Mideon so you'll know just how degrading that was).

Foley returned to WWE, but as Cactus Jack - ahh, I love a good ol' loophole - with HHH's reaction to Mick revealing that classic t-shirt from under Mankind's more formal wear being absolutely priceless. Great story telling, there.

But the action in the ring, once again, goes beyond my lexicon and needs to be seen to be believed. I didn't want this list to be a Triple H love-in, but it's certainly turning into one as The Game contested the majority of the match with a gaping hole in his calf caused by a stray piece of wood! Serious intestinal fortitude.

Both men sacrificed their bodies for our entertainment and watching it, it's a shame we don't see scenes like this once in a while any more, isn't it?
