Jonathan Gresham requested his AEW/ROH release prior to Saturday's ROH Death Before Dishonor pay-per-view, reportedly cussing promoter Tony Khan out during a meeting.

The now-former ROH World Champion was said to be frustrated by a perceived lack of communication from the company. Additionally, the lack of time his DBD clash with Claudio Castagnoli received was a bone of contention.

Fightful Select, who broke the initial story, has now released an update stating that Gresham had become unhappy with his presentation in AEW/ROH. Additionally, while it was agreed that the context of his conversation with Khan would remain confidential, people in the locker room (including building security) could hear what was happening.

Gresham is believed to have had productive conversations with AEW staffer QT Marshall over the past week and had also been in contact with Sonjay Dutt. His frustration stems from creative, which Khan handles, and the 34-year-old was ultimately unable to land a meeting with Tony until a few hours before Death Before Dishonor.

People on the AEW side believe that Gresham's mind was made up before he entered the meeting. His self-belief and passion for ROH was a perceived reason for him getting so heated, with his vision seemingly different to Khan's. The two parties disagreed on topics like Gresham turning heel on AEW television, which he had done prior to Saturday's pay-per-view, aligning with Tully Blanchard Enterprises (which became a revival of Prince Nana's old Embassy stable at DBD).

Whether or not AEW/ROH had released Gresham remained unclear at the time of writing.
